Dimethylation Analysis Service
MtoZ Biolabs provides Dimethylation Analysis Service to deliver accurate identification and quantification of protein dimethylation events. Our workflows integrate optimized enrichment strategies with Orbitrap-based LC-MS/MS platforms, ensuring sensitive recovery of dimethylated peptides and reproducible datasets. For quantitative analysis, we offer TMT and iTRAQ labeling for multiplexed comparisons as well as label-free quantification for large-scale studies. These complementary approaches allow researchers to track biologically relevant changes in dimethylation across different experimental conditions.
What is Dimethylation?
Protein dimethylation is a frequent post-translational modification involving the addition of two methyl groups to lysine (Lys) or arginine (Arg) residues. This modification produces a +28 Da mass increase that can be precisely detected by high-resolution mass spectrometry.
Dimethylation occurs in two main forms: asymmetric dimethylation (ADMA) and symmetric dimethylation (SDMA). Each has distinct biological roles. ADMA is closely linked to RNA metabolism, signal transduction, and immune regulation, while SDMA plays a central role in chromatin remodeling and transcriptional control. Through these mechanisms, dimethylation serves as a crucial regulator of gene expression and cellular function. Aberrant dimethylation has been associated with cancer progression, autoimmune conditions, and neurological disorders, highlighting its biomedical significance.
